That's exactly what happened with Margo and Nathan. Along with a "meet-cute" as they call it in the movies, albeit a way more modern version.
Now, I'm going to try my best to recall the details of this love story, because being the hopeless romantic that I am, I basically stood the with my jaw on the floor as Nathan so lovingly told me their story while Margo was getting her hair and makeup done for their engagement session in my studio.
He was living in Belgium and one night while taking a break during studying, he decided to check out an app his friend told him about. Meanwhile, only a few thousand kilometers away in Somerset West, South Africa, Margo, who's an ambassador for the app was just hanging out doing a live. They started chatting over the next few weeks just building a friendship. Then Nathan went MIA for a few days and Margo realized she was surprisingly missing him. He eventually reappeared, announcing that he has developed feelings for her and would like to fly to South Africa to meet her in person. He flew to SA in the beginning of December 2021 and he said, and I quote, it was the best month of his life. He had met the woman of his dreams.
He returned to Belgium, unbeknownst to Margo, to inform his family that he plans to move to South Africa. He planned to fly in February 2022, but his flight was canceled and the only available flight was from Amsterdam. He convinced (begged) his best friend to drive through the night to get to the airport in time. So my first thought was, why not just wait for the next available flight right? But no, Nathan couldn't wait another day. He was flying to South Africa with a diamond ring in his pocket. Margo had no idea that he was going to propose. And of course, she said yes!
They have started there happily ever after here in Somerset West and will be starting their forever together in November when they become husband and wife. It's been a beautiful journey with these two from the moment I met them and I was overjoyed when they asked me to capture their wedding day as well!
